I’m not going into any details about the preseason games. Eight games against very weak opponents. Needless to say, eight wins and plenty of goals. Match fitness raised, tactical awareness increased, and only a couple of minor knocks.
That is, until Koscielny strains some ligaments in his knee and is out for six weeks. So we’ve got to go to Stamford Bridge and the City of Manchester without the only centre back that I completely trust. One more injury and Rob Holding starts. Ouch.
Positives: Giroud, Gibbs, Belotti, Walcott and Mustafi perform particularly well, averaging over 8.
Negative: Ozil doesn’t do much. Before the last match against Enfield Town, he hasn’t scored or assisted in a goal in six pre-season appearances.
Still, it’s early days, and he sure showed Enfield Town who was boss…
Here’s a quick screenshot of the staff changes so far. There’s likely to be a couple more additions at some point.
And so the season proper is here. And where better to begin than away from home against my bogey side, West Brom, without three centre backs, live on TV on Friday night to open the Premier League season?
